Hallelujah!

We may have a floor plan! We've been working with our fabulous designer Melody since February, and have yet to come up with a plan all four of us (her husband Mike is the builder/GC) are comfortable with. It's not about what they can do, it's about what we can afford! We want a castle on a carpenter's budget. Alas, since our beautiful black locust trees only grow thorns and not money, we have bit by bit been giving up the dream of the castle. We finally forewent the moat and drawbridge this weekend, and Melody's response was this:

"I really like it! After Mike looks it and we get his comments we should get it ready to send off to the architect. I think the size is close enough now to start pricing."

Woo hoo! Happy dances all around. We might just be getting there! Whoever thought that designing a castle would take so long?

Jen, I'm glad you ditched the moat, no pun intended. The elevation of your land would make for an interesting moat, let's just put it that way. :-) Glad to hear/read that you have a "doable" floor plan that you're happy with. I watched you and Jim ponder for weeks and weeks about these plans, so it is nice to see you've come up with the dream.

Our "Scrapbook"

I've never been proficient at scrapbooking, but I wanted a way of capturing the building of our new home. A blog is the perfect way for two "techies" to accomplish the artistry of capturing memories.

We moved from the Midwest to the East Coast in October 2008. We found our building site in November 2008, and broke ground in October 2009.

Henceforth, The Building of Blackthorn Ridge.
